Legal aid is free assistance to people who have low income but have a need for non-criminal related services. In the usual case, U.S. citizens can obtain legal assistance if the legal advice they need is a civil matter, such as the rights of consumers or a divorce.
There are also a vast network of legal aid offices and community legal centers, spread across the country to help those in need of legal assistance. However, not everyone will be entitled to free legal aid, you must first qualify for it.
First of all, the legal aid office will consider the personal financial situation to decide if you qualify. As each situation is different, everything depends on your family responsibilities and monthly expenses. For example, if your legal situation is serious and will have little or no money left after paying for needs such as transport and accommodation, it is likely that you will be able to benefit from it. After completing the Application Form, you will get an appointment to speak to the committee area. This usually takes about two or three weeks. During the meeting with the committee (consisting of a team of three lawyers) will have to defend your decision to apply for an appeal and convince them to grant you legal aid.
